Anerdam Wildlife Sanctuary, Dhule

Location:
Anerdam sanctuary is located on Bombay-Agra national Highway in Shirpur Tehsil of Dhule District.

Biodiversity:
The sanctuary is facing serious problems of illegal grazing and encroachments. This area was fairly rich in wildlife in past. However there is a steady progress in restoration of of its original status.

Flora:

The sanctuary is situated on southwestern range of Satpura range. The present stage of vegetation is degraded scrub forest with small patches of wooded land.  The sanctuary has common boundary with other sanctuaries like Yawal and other in Madhya Pradesh. common tre species are Acacia catechu (Khair),A.leucocephala (Hiwar), A.indica(Babul), Angel marmelos (Bel), Albizzia lebbek, A. procera, Anogeissus latifolia (Dhawda), Butea monosperma (Palas), Boswellia swerrata (Salaia),Ficus and terminenalia species etc.. Common shrubs include Vitex nigundo, Zizphus spp. helicteres isora, Solanium giganteum, Casia auriculata and Lantna etc..Known locally as Kusal, bhuri, Rosa, Kunda, Sheda and Kusali etc. are common grasses. 
                    

Fauna:

Barking deers, Chikaras, Hares, porcupines, jungle cats are common animals found in the sanctuary. Migarnts animals include Hyenas, Jackals, Wolves and wild boars. Monitor lizard is the common reptile in this sanctuary. Migartory birds do visit the area. Notable among them are Brahming ducks, Cranes, Stokes and many waders. common resident birds are Peafs, Qualis, Ppartridges, Egrets, herons, cormorants, Corts, Spot bills, Eagle hamers and owls etc.

Tourist Information:

Best season to visit: November to February . Animals are best sighted in summers.

Nearest Airport: Aurangabad (215 kms.)

By Rail: Chailsgaon (125 kms.) on Mumbai-Bhusawal route  and Nardona  (40kms.) on Western Railway  are convenient railheads.   

By Road: Shirpur and Dhule are at 15 kms. and 70 kms. respectively from sanctuary. 

 

Accommodations:

Day visit from Shirpur may be sufficient. However for night stay following accommodations may be available.
