Wildlife Sanctuaries in Marathwada
|
Seven districts of Maharashtra, namely Aurangabad,
Beed, Osmanabad, Nanded, Parbhani, Latur and Jalna are known as Marathwada.
Climate of Marathwada is generally hot and dry but is less severe than
Vidarbha. Rainfall is less and of short duration. The gravelly soil is of
unfertile nature. However, on the banks of Godavari river, alluvial soil
is found. It is more productive and differs in vegetation at other places.
Flora of Marathwada developed on the Deccan trap hills is composed of
typical trap soils, with rainfall 500-600 mm and with altitudes between
low barren hills. It is typical of the dry parts of Maharashtra. The
monsoon flora in Marathwada looks very different from those of the other
seasons due to exotic ephemerals and weedy plants which are introduced
from time to time.
